Study abroad costs

A German public university can cost far less than many private colleges in India

The real amount depends on your state, programme, city, rent, insurance, and personal situation. Here is a safer way to plan.

What actually makes this affordable No tuition, in most of Germany

Our estimates, checked August 2026 — plan against them, then verify anything binding at the source. The blocked account is not a fee and not money you earn there: it is your own funds, deposited before the visa and released back to you monthly. *Baden-Württemberg charges every non-EU student, and some Bavarian universities charge several times that, so check the fee page of each university on your shortlist.

The dream is real. So is the reality. We prepare you for both.

Four things that surprise most Indian students in their first term, and what to do about each.

Much of German bureaucracy happens in German. City registration (Anmeldung), rental contracts and insurance paperwork are usually German-only, even in cities where daily life runs in English. Read every form before you sign it, and get help translating the rental contract in particular.

Your first month can feel overwhelming. Registration, bank account, insurance and enrolment all fall in the same two weeks, in that order, and each one blocks the next. Book your Anmeldung appointment before you fly — in some cities the wait is several weeks.

The costs nobody puts in the brochure. Student health insurance, the semester contribution, a rental deposit of two to three months' rent, and the household broadcasting fee are all real and all recurring. Amounts change yearly — our free Germany guide lists each one and links to the official source rather than quoting a number that goes stale.

The language barrier is real even in English programmes. Your course may be in English; your doctor, landlord and city office will not be. The level you need for admission and the level you need to live comfortably are two different things — the exam guide separates them.

How we work

Five commitments, and what each one means in practice

Not a comparison with anyone else — just what we hold ourselves to, stated specifically enough that you could hold us to it.

No university commissions

We take no money from any university, agent or partner — only from the student. That is the reason a shortlist we hand you can be argued with on its merits: nothing on it is there because someone paid for the slot.

Your documents are yours

Your statement of purpose is drafted from your own material, in conversation with you, and you write and own the final text. We will edit, question and push back. We will not hand you a document about a person who is not you.

Scope agreed before money

What is included, what is not, how many universities, and over what period — settled in writing before any payment. If the answer to something is "that is outside what I do", you hear it then, not later.

No outcome promises

We do not promise admission, a visa, a scholarship or a job, because none of those decisions are ours to make. What we can promise is preparation, and an honest read on your chances before you spend money on applications.

Parents in the room

Every call is open to your parents, and the money and safety questions get answered directly rather than deflected back to you afterwards. This is a family decision and it is treated as one.

It does not end at the offer letter

Support runs through visa preparation and the first weeks in Germany — registration, bank account, insurance, housing — because that is the part where students are most alone and least prepared.

New for Summer 2027 applicants

There is a new test in the APS process

The dMAT is being added to APS documentation for Masters applicants whose degree is in Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or Management. It applies from the Summer Semester 2027 intake, and registration closes on 15 September 2026. It does not apply to Bachelors or PhD applicants.

This is not for everyone — and that is intentional

I keep the intake small because I am doing this alongside a full-time job in Germany, and ten is honestly the number of applications I can think hard about. There is no version of this where I take fifty students and still know your programme deadlines by heart.

That means I turn people away — including people who could pay. If your timeline does not work, or Germany is not the right country for what you want to do, I would rather tell you that on the first call than take your money and find out together in March.

What you will not get from us is a guarantee. No one can promise your child a place, a visa or a job, and anyone who does is selling something. What we can do is set out the real costs and the real risks in advance, in plain language, so the decision is yours to make with the full picture. Questions before you request an evaluation

What exactly is The Leap Europe?
A one-person mentorship run by Anushka Sharma, an Indian graduate now living in Germany. There are three things on offer: free written guides on this site, live Leap Lab sessions anyone can register for, and paid 1:1 application support for a first cohort of ten students. It is not a consultancy chain, a university agent, or an immigration adviser.
Why is the cohort limited to 10 students?
Because Anushka works with every student personally, alongside a full-time role in Germany. Ten is the number she can give real attention to. If you want a large consultancy that processes many applications at once, this is not that.
Do you guarantee admission?
No. Nobody honest can guarantee admission. We help you make stronger choices, prepare a thoughtful application, and avoid preventable mistakes. The university makes the final decision.
Do you guarantee a visa?
No. Visa decisions are made by official authorities. We help you organise your documents, understand the process, and prepare carefully, but we do not control the outcome.
Do you take commissions from universities?
No. The Leap Europe takes no money from any university, agent or partner. The only money involved is what a student pays for mentorship, which is why the shortlist you get is built around your profile rather than around who pays us.
Can my parents be involved?
Yes, and we encourage it. Every call is open to parents, and their questions about money, safety and timelines get answered directly.
Do you only help with Germany?
Germany is our first focus and where our written guides are deepest. Other European options can be discussed when they genuinely fit your academic profile, budget and career plans.
Are you a visa or immigration authority?
No. The Leap Europe is a student mentorship service, not a visa authority, an immigration law firm, or a university representative. Final admission and visa decisions belong to universities and official authorities.
What if Germany isn't right for me?
Then Anushka will say so, on the first call, before you pay for anything beyond it. Applying to the wrong country is expensive in a way that a hard conversation is not. The full list of questions we get asked is on the Services page.
